April 2009 Project

In April 2009, we traveled to Kiima Kimwe to continue our work in the region. While we were there, we performed the following work:

  • Installation of two rainwater harvesting systems at two village churches– one at Kiima Kimwe Baptist Church, and one at Makilu Baptist Church.
  • Delivery and installation of a solar-powered ozone water purification system for the water storage tank at Makilu Baptist Church
  • Kick-off of the Kiima Kimwe Health Clinic project

We also spent time meeting with local officials to review their priorities for community development projects in the region. The need for the health clinic to serve the 10,000+ people in Kiima Kimwe was their top priority, so we committed to working with the communities of the area to bring this clinic to fruition. We toured an abandoned school near the grounds of the Kiima Kimwe Baptist Church and designated it as the place where we would focus our construction efforts.

We also toured the site of the planned borehole well on the campus of the Kyeni Primary School. about a half mile from the site of the proposed health clinic. Members of the District and local government joined us in laying the groundwork for a long-term plan to drill a well to provide sustainable clean drinking water to over 2,000 families in the area.
