Christina Alexander, Founder and CEO

Other Paths was founded by Christina Alexander during her tenure as National Director of Visual Marketing at Def Jam Records. Recognizing how her own life had been shaped by her experiences abroad, she created the organization as a means to get young people out of their day-to-day routines and provide them with experiences that allowed them to share their stories with people from across the globe and bring home stories from people they have engaged with.

Through hiking and camping trips, conservation projects, and working with local service organizations, Other Paths participants discovered how they make a positive impact on others without having to be wealthy or famous.

The first years of its existence, Other Paths built a solid core of enthusiastic participants and adult volunteers, all of whom credit Other Paths with providing them opportunities that build confidence, learn teamwork, and broaden the range of possibilities in their lives.

Other Paths 2007 Service Project Volunteers

In Spring 2006, Other Paths was invited to participate in the construction of an addition to a pre-school in a small village in rural Kenya. Our student participants immediately launched a 10-month series of fundraisers, planning sessions, and workshops.

By April 2007, the team of six students from the Fruitvale District of Oakland had raised over $35,000 to fund a two-week service project to the Kiima Kimwe region of Kenya, where the six students and four Other Paths adult volunteers assisted in construction activities and implemented clean water systems for two village schools.

Since our inaugural service project in 2007, we have been expanding our programs to include individuals and business & civic groups. In 2009, we increased our partner and organizational sponsorship efforts to build linkages with international non-profits, NGOs, and companies interested in addressing our focus areas, which include clean water & public health, education, gender equality, and creating sustainable local economies.

If you would like to know more about our organization or are interested in participating in one of our programs, please contact us.
